The four inputs

  1. Parts + tools you don’t already own — Fix Kit, adhesive, module, drivers.
  2. Your time × confidence — first repair takes longer; watch a teardown before you buy.
  3. Failure risk — data loss, Face ID / True Tone, battery puncture, cosmetic damage.
  4. Replacement / trade-in value — what a working device is worth vs a dead one.

Simple rule

DIY total ≪ replacement and risk is acceptable → kit path.
Close call, warranty active, or hazardous damage → shop or replace.
